Thoughts, Comments, and Whatnot on DS #11

I felt it was a much better issue than number 10, which seemed kinda' weak to me. It was good to get back into some action, and a nice surprise to find Nicole--aka Irene Adler--is hanging around town.

When Nicole refers to Sarah as a "customer," is it correct to assume that Sarah has paid Nicole (in some form) for the information she receives during their meeting? She sure dishes some good dirt to Sarah, and from what seems to me a relatively balanced perspective.

And hey, looks like we got some heavy turf war coming up!

I was slightly put off by the pannel of the grinder firing the shots at the LO/C dealers: the slugs kinda' look a little like tampons, lol.

And why can't I find the "recipe" for the homemade silencer on doktorsleepless.com, eh? :D

Things are heating up, and no mistake.

Wonderful to see Irene Adler at last... though I don't quite buy how Berlin sussed who she was so easily.
Looks like Team Vagina is assembling... (Sorry for the horrible name, but I just couldn't resist!)

As for your point:

Maybe the bullets were the 'special recipe' on the wiki? (When I read it, I thought the recipe referred to the smily-face-drugs! Oh dear, have to reread it, what a chore...)

Well, it could be the bullets, but I don't think special bullets are needed to take out a couple of drug dealing thugs. And the slugs would still have to be of standard shape and size in order for them to actually work in the handgun. The artwork in the panel is merely a little off is all.

But yeah, the reference is kinda' vague, so I'm assuming from context the "recipe" is for the silencer.

Oh yeah, I also meant to say I agree that Sarah's sussing out of Nicole as Adler seemed kinda', uh, abrupt.

Server crept up to me whilest I slept.

"Create a journalism collective" it whispers in my ear

Half turning a 'mmmmmhmmmmm' rolls from my gullet.

And the todo lists flew into a queue

like burger king registers at lunch

and then I checked Darkening Sky and made this post

Thanks Again!

Re. Journalism collective - are you watching the Newskrusher threads on Whitechapel? Warren has had us minions make just that!
Though another one, with that imminent.sea flavour would be a fine, fine thing. And I'd volunteer for it - and I suspect mane yere would be interested too.

First thing i'd do is a grinding.be mashup site that was a groupblog that posted really really short fiction about the items in grinding.be being used once it's ubiquious in culture. I'd do some fancy things with image gallaries that showed some kind of persistant search on tags from it so you can see other 'moving buildings' or 'watchphones' or whatever that are currently that TALK OF TEH TOWN. :|

From that there are lots of places to put Passionate People Productively!

That stands for PPP!

Interesting. Not quite sure how Grinder fiction counts as journalism, mind you...

different projects

You can't just say 'lets start a movement in indie journalism', you hafta think of things to ease people into it.

*ahem*

Fair enough!

I like it!

we don't always have time, energy, ideas to contextualize / pre-digest the posts

sometimes just going "look, shiny!" is enough though

a site where people riffed on and combined different new tech would be hella cool, and a fun form of Futurism (which, these days they just call writing Scenarios anyway)..

..plus, there's the whole Brute Forcing The Problem Space thang (#include corydoctorow.h)
as I tried to illustrate with the recent post on (Future) Pirate Radio
the more advanced all this tech gets, the greater the number of combinations (potentially) exist
ergo - the more fun you can have combined past, present and future tech into cool stories/scenarios

make it happen

I'd buy that for a Dollar

and fuck Ning for filtering out my attempts to use Robocop mark-up tags

I thought Nicole was an "informant" of sorts for Sarah Berlin.

I haven't looked for the recipe, but it might not be there. Perhaps we are supposed to put it there?

And a tampon fired at several hundred feet per second would still do some damage! :D
