The Darkening Sky

Heavenside 1

Last December, the group of writers for http://www.grinding.be was assembled from here.

Since then, very fine people have made Grinding a very fine website. But time and work and neurovores from higher dimensions have diminished the team. The survivors must be supported by fresh blood.

I would therefore like more volunteer authors for the grinding.be groupblog. Grinding.be collects and presents links and webpages on subjects that grinders would be interested in. A BoingBoing for cyborging, body modification, biotech, communications technology, exotic interfaces, industrial fashion... all the things that'll grow from the seeds of today into the Heavenside of tomorrow.

Grinding.be would NOT be a place for fiction. At all. I would like people to find a groupblog about the real-world underpinnings of the fictional grinder subculture and the particular science-fictional world of DOKTOR SLEEPLESS.

This is UNPAID. Though I can probably convince Avatar to throw you a t-shirt or something.

You will obviously own your own posts, although, since a lot of it will be linkblogging, that's relatively meaningless. However, if you choose to write thought-pieces stemming from a link or news item -- yes, you'll own it.

And I want the groupblog authors to come from this core community.

So... if you've ever fancied participating in a groupblog about the above themes (and those related -- I'm not completely dogmatic here) and you think this'd be a good time to start, thereby joining the heroes already running the place -- leave a message in this thread.

I know that being unpaid sucks -- but I'm not going to stop you from promoting yourself or your friends (if they're doing work that's in-theme), and it might be a good way to build yourself an audience. Or just have some fun, really. Hell, invent a Grinder name for yourself for all I care.

Anyway. If this sounds good to you, speak.

If we can write thought pieces, yeah, sure, I'll volunteer.

Hello,

My name is George Rohac.

I'm a research, specifically on the affect of technologies on culture. I'm currently a grad student as a part of NYU's John W. Draper Interdisciplinary Program in the Humanities and Social Thought. My particular focus in the program is Science Studies (aka Science in Society).

I have a curriculum vitae available at: http://www.georgerohac.com/docs/cvitae.rtf

I believe I'd have a lot to offer grinding.be, as I'm going to be involved with this anyways.

I'm game for writing about crazy communications tech, specifically hardware and software for grassroots and activist comms, as that's closest to my background. If there are limited spots then I would feel obliged to defer to people who've been more prolific than I in *this* forum, however. -Michael

I'm more a whitechapeler than a darkener, but this is something I'd like to do.

I'm a freelance writer, and would therefore tell anyone but Mr Ellis to take a running jump at a trash compactor for suggesting unpaid work, but contributing to grinding.be would be seriously fun.

I would be very interested in contributing to Grinding. I can promise weekly updates at a minimum, though I would aim for posting more often when I am able. I sadly cannot provide any references but I can promise enthusiasm. Thanks for offering this opportunity.
